The word “Kantara” means “mystical forest” in the old language Sanskrit. It describes the special culture and traditions from the Tulu Nadu region which is in parts of Karnataka and Kerala. In this culture people worship Daivas .sacred spirit gods who protect the land the people and their history.

Unlike regular Hindu worship in temples Daiva rituals are part of a special event called Bhoota Kola.
